Looking to support all types of local restaurants during “NYC Restaurant Week To Go”, it was time to indulge in one of “The Beast’s” favorite cuisines. It was a perfect night to order from an Indian restaurant. After looking at different Yelp reviews and speaking to people from the area, it was settled. Dinner was ordered from Dosa Garden located at 323 Victory Boulevard, Staten Island NY 10301. Their phone number is 718-720-0919.
Never eating from this restaurant and not wanting to disappoint “The Beast”, I ordered dishes I am very familiar with so I can compare the taste and quality. The order was placed through Grubhub and was delivered in a timely fashion for a Friday night.
I always recommend breads and chutney’s when eating Indian cuisine. This time the choices was Naan and Onion Kulcha. To accompany the breads, I ordered mint, tamarind and mango chutney. Both breads were excellent, especially when dipped in the sauces. The onion Kulcha was plentiful with onions as each bite was taken. The mango chutney had large chucks of mango with a pleasant sweetness.
The Samosa Chaat appetizer complimented the meal perfectly. If you never had this dish before, let me explain what it is. On the bottom is chopped up samosa. samosa is a fried pastry filled with spicy potatoes and peas. On the top is a yogurt chutney filled with spices. When you take a bite that includes a little bit of everything in the chaat, the flavors explode.
The Chicken Tikka Masala was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The chicken was tender and juicy and the masala sauce was flavorful and creamy with nice size pieces of peppers and onions. Poured over the rice it was a well balanced dish. However, the remaining bread did not stand a chance. I ripped it apart and used it to enjoy every bit of sauce that was remaining. Needless to say “The Beast” was extremely satisfied by this hidden gem and I can assure you, he will feast from here again.
