With indoor dining finally open, “The Beast” needed to be out on the prowl. On the North Shore of Staten Island in the dead center of Forest Avenue is Ho’ Brah. They also have locations on New Dorp Lane in Staten Island and in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Once you walk through the doors of this Taco Joint, you know you are going to have a good time. We were immediately greeted and even though we neglected to make a reservation, they found a way to accommodate us.
Our server was extremely friendly and informative. There are many options for cocktails, after after careful consideration “The Beast” opted for the Jalapeño Margarita. There was an ample amount of salt around the rim of the glass. Not just a sprinkle. The flavors of this drink worked extremely well together. The sweetness of the margarita was cut by the heat from the Jalapeño. You have the best of both worlds.
To start it was decided to sample their guacamole and chips. I believe you can always judge how the meal is going to be in a joint like this by the guacamole. The guacamole was freshly made without the cilantro being over powering and it had nice size pieces of avocado in it. It was so delicious that it almost got to the point where “The Beast” was going to lick the bowl.
For entrées we ordered the Surf City Fajitas and the Steak Chimichurri. The fajita arrived at the table sizzling and was plentiful. It is a combination fajita with chicken, steak and shrimp. All three proteins were cooked to perfection. The flavors of the seasoning exploded in your mouth. As for the steak entrée, the steak was a perfect medium rare. The chimichurri was blended well and was a great accompaniment to the steak.
From the atmosphere, to the drinks, food and service this is a great little joint. Definitely worth going back to. During the nicer weather they even have an outdoor garden area where you can enjoy your day or evening. If you have never been here, you should check it out.
